Filipinos are now looking beyond borders for ways to turn their culinary dreams into a global reality. For many, that journey leads to Singapore, where food, culture, and innovation collide。

Last weekend at Dusit Thani Manila, aspiring global chefs and foodpreneurs gathered to explore scholarship for study-and-work opportunities with At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy, Singapore’s premier culinary entrepreneurship institution. From high school students to career shifters, all shared one thing in common: a passion for food and the drive to take it global。

The event marked a milestone with the awarding of three new scholars. Among them is Louie Base, a senior college student who hopes to begin her entrepreneurial journey in Singapore. Shella Cabrera, a working professional, sees this opportunity as a pathway to kickstart her culinary career and build a new life abroad.

“What makes At-Sunrice truly stand out is our unique study-and-work pedagogy,” said Suman Subbian, Director of Recruitment and Partnerships. “Students don’t just learn theory—they gain real-world, hands-on experience through paid internships while mastering both Asian and Western cuisines. And with scholarships covering up to 100% of the first semester, it’s no surprise we’re seeing more and more talented Filipinos choosing Singapore as the place to start their culinary journey。”

The Philippines continues to emerge as a vibrant source of culinary talent, with many young Filipinos seeking meaningful, international careers in food and hospitality. Opportunities like this scholarship are more than just financial support—they are a springboard to international success。

Attendees were inspired by alumni who once stood where they are now.

Chef Nikki and Aaron Lau, 2010 graduates who met during their studies and became a married couple, are now the proud owners of Booya Bagels in Manila—a popular New York-style bagel shop that’s now making waves in Manila. They credited At-Sunrice as the foundation of their journey, where they learned the craft, built the courage, and found the vision to turn their dream into a business with a love story。

Singapore isn’t just a destination; it’s a global stage where aspiring Filipino chefs and foodpreneurs can begin a transformative journey. And for these dreamers, At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy is the first step。
